1. Overview of Support Provided

Sansaar Care funded the rehabilitation and expansion of a Government Primary School in District Jhang, Punjab, Pakistan in partnership with Penny Appeal. The project was designed to improve access to education for children living in the surrounding rural communities.

The project addressed the urgent need for improved school infrastructure in the area. Prior to the intervention, the existing classrooms were insufficient for the number of students attending the school, creating overcrowded conditions and limiting educational access.
Through the project, the school facilities were expanded and improved, enabling children to access education in a safer and more appropriate learning environment. The project also included additional activities aimed at promoting health awareness and safeguarding among students.

The completed school now serves as a key education facility for the surrounding villages.

2. Identified Need and Context

Access to education remains a major challenge in many rural areas of Pakistan, where limited infrastructure and insufficient school facilities prevent many children from attending school.

Education is widely recognised as a fundamental human right and a key driver of social and economic development. However, millions of children worldwide remain out of school due to barriers such as distance, inadequate facilities and insufficient teaching resources.

In the community served by this project, the beneficiary village consists of approximately 1,500 households with a population of around 11,000 people, placing significant pressure on the available educational facilities.

The existing school lacked adequate classroom capacity to accommodate the growing number of students, highlighting the urgent need for infrastructure improvements to ensure children could continue their education.

3. Beneficiaries and Public Benefit

The primary beneficiaries of the project are children living in the surrounding community who now have improved access to educational facilities.

Following completion of the project, the school became the preferred educational facility for more than 210 students supported by four teachers, serving children from the local village as well as neighbouring communities.

The project provides clear public benefit by:

  • improving access to primary education
  • providing a safe and structured learning environment
  • supporting the development of literacy and educational attainment
  • strengthening education infrastructure for the local community

In addition to improving school infrastructure, the project also included health and hygiene awareness sessions covering topics such as child protection, first aid and environmental protection.

4. Support Delivered

The project involved the rehabilitation and expansion of an existing government primary school facility.

The improvements included:

  • expansion and improvement of classroom facilities
  • provision of safe and appropriate learning environments
  • support for school infrastructure improvements
  • health and hygiene training sessions for students

The project was implemented in coordination with the local education authorities. Upon completion, the school facility was formally handed over to the education department and the School Management Council, which now oversee the continued operation and maintenance of the school.

An inauguration ceremony was held to mark the completion of the project, attended by local stakeholders including district education officers and community representatives.

5. Outcomes and Impact

The rehabilitation and expansion of the school has significantly improved educational access for children living in the surrounding community.

Students now benefit from improved classroom facilities and a more stable learning environment, enabling teachers to deliver structured lessons more effectively.

The project has strengthened education infrastructure within the community and provided long-term benefits for students and families. The school now serves multiple neighbouring villages, ensuring that children across the wider area have access to quality education.

6. Risk, Safeguarding and Governance Considerations

The project was delivered through Penny Appeal, an established international charity experienced in delivering humanitarian and development programmes.

The implementation of the project involved coordination with local education authorities and the district government to ensure that the school was developed in accordance with local requirements and integrated into the existing education system.

Following completion, responsibility for the ongoing management and maintenance of the school was transferred to the education department and the School Management Council, ensuring long-term sustainability and community oversight of the facility.

7. Learning and Future Application

This project highlights the significant impact that targeted investment in education infrastructure can have on communities where access to schooling is limited.

Providing improved school facilities helps increase enrolment rates, strengthens educational participation and supports the long-term development of children within the community.

The success of this initiative demonstrates the value of working with experienced partner organisations to deliver infrastructure projects that provide sustainable benefits for children and families.

Sansaar Care intends to continue supporting initiatives that improve access to education and strengthen community development in underserved regions.
