1. Overview of Support Provided

Sansaar Care provided a charitable donation of £10,500 to support the provision of prosthetic limbs for 7 children in Gaza  who have suffered limb loss as a result of ongoing conflict.

The donation formed part of the Gaza Prosthetic and Orthotic Support Programme, delivered in partnership with Islamic Help and implemented through the Artificial Limb and Polio Centre (ALPC) in Gaza.

The funding contributed toward the manufacturing, fitting and rehabilitation support required to provide prosthetic limbs to child amputees, enabling them to regain mobility and independence.

This intervention reflects Sansaar Care’s commitment to supporting vulnerable children affected by humanitarian crises and providing life-changing medical assistance.

2. Identified Need and Context

The humanitarian situation in Gaza has resulted in a significant number of injuries and life-altering disabilities among civilians, including children.

Recent conflict has led to over 150,000 wounded individuals, with an estimated 5,000 to 10,000 amputations, creating an urgent and growing need for prosthetic and rehabilitation services.

The Artificial Limb and Polio Centre (ALPC) is the primary provider of prosthetic and orthotic services in Gaza, delivering critical support to amputees and individuals with physical disabilities.

However, the centre faces severe constraints, including:

  • shortages of materials and specialist staff
  • limited infrastructure and resources
  • increased demand due to ongoing conflict

This has created an urgent need for external support to enable the centre to continue providing essential rehabilitation services.

3. Beneficiaries and Public Benefit

The primary beneficiaries of this project are 7 children who have experienced limb loss, as well as their families and wider community.

The provision of prosthetic limbs delivers significant public benefit by:

  • restoring mobility and independence to child amputees
  • enabling children to reintegrate into education and social environments
  • improving physical and psychological wellbeing
  • reducing long-term dependency on healthcare systems

The wider programme also contributes to supporting Gaza’s healthcare infrastructure by strengthening the capacity of the ALPC to deliver essential services.

4. Support Delivered

Sansaar Care’s donation contributed directly toward the provision of prosthetic limbs, including:

  • design and manufacturing of prosthetic devices
  • fitting and adjustment of prostheses
  • rehabilitation and physiotherapy support
  • follow-up care and maintenance

The wider project includes the provision of prosthetic limbs to amputees at an estimated cost of £2,000 per prosthesis, forming part of a broader programme supporting both amputees and injured individuals.

The intervention ensures that beneficiaries receive not only the prosthetic device but also the necessary support to use it effectively and regain functional mobility.

5. Outcomes and Impact

The provision of prosthetic limbs enables children who have suffered life-changing injuries to regain independence and improve their quality of life.

Expected and realised outcomes include:

  • restored mobility and improved physical function
  • enhanced psychological wellbeing and confidence
  • increased ability to participate in education and daily activities
  • improved long-term life prospects for beneficiaries

By supporting early rehabilitation, the project helps prevent long-term complications and supports children in rebuilding their lives following trauma.

6. Risk, Safeguarding and Governance Considerations

The project is delivered through Islamic Help, a UK registered charity with established governance and operational frameworks.

Implementation is carried out through the Artificial Limb and Polio Centre (ALPC), a long-standing institution in Gaza providing prosthetic and rehabilitation services.

Risk mitigation measures include:

  • coordination with local authorities and international organisations
  • structured monitoring and reporting processes
  • follow-up care to ensure effective use of prosthetic devices

Sansaar Care retains documentation relating to the donation and confirmation of its intended charitable purpose.

7. Learning and Future Application

This case study highlights the importance of providing targeted medical interventions in humanitarian settings, particularly where children are affected by severe injuries.

Access to prosthetic and rehabilitation services can have a transformative impact on a child’s life, enabling recovery, independence and reintegration into society.

The experience gained from supporting this initiative will inform Sansaar Care’s future involvement in healthcare and humanitarian programmes aimed at supporting vulnerable children affected by conflict.
