Sansaar Care has increased the number of orphaned children sponsored through the Human Appeal Orphan Sponsorship Programme

Delivery Partner: Human Appeal
Status of Activity: Donation made and sponsorship expanded to 40 orphans

1.    Overview of Support Provided

Sansaar Care attended a fundraising comedy event organised by Human Appeal to raise donations for orphaned children in Gaza. During the event, the devastating scale of the orphan crisis was highlighted, with nearly 55,000 children in Gaza reported to have been orphaned as a consequence of the ongoing genocide.

In response, Sansaar Care donated £9,600 to sponsor a further 20 orphaned children through Human Appeal’s International Orphan Sponsorship Programme. This builds upon Sansaar Care’s existing sponsorship of 20 children through Human Appeal, bringing the total number sponsored through this delivery partner to 40.

Across all of Sansaar Care’s delivery partners, the organisation is now approaching 60 sponsored orphans. This demonstrates Sansaar Care’s growing and sustained commitment to protecting and supporting children who have lost parental care because of conflict, poverty and humanitarian crises.

The sponsorship programme provides ongoing financial assistance intended to help meet each child’s essential needs, including food, clothing, healthcare, education and safe living arrangements.

2.    Identified Need and Context

The ongoing genocide and humanitarian crisis in Gaza have caused extensive loss of life, widespread displacement and the destruction of homes, schools, healthcare facilities and essential infrastructure. Children have been disproportionately affected, with nearly 55,000 children reported to have lost one or both parents.

Orphaned children living in Gaza and other crisis-affected regions face heightened risks, including:

  • Hunger, malnutrition and food insecurity
  • Limited access to healthcare and essential medicines
  • Disrupted education and a lack of school materials
  • Displacement and unsafe living conditions
  • Trauma, grief and long-term emotional harm
  • Poverty, exploitation and other safeguarding risks

The Human Appeal event brought the scale and urgency of this crisis into sharper focus. Sansaar Care therefore decided to extend its existing sponsorship commitment by funding a further 20 children.

Although the event focused on the needs of orphaned children in Gaza, the 20 additional sponsorships allocated by Human Appeal support vulnerable children across Palestine and other countries affected by conflict, displacement and poverty, including Yemen, Pakistan, Somalia, Syria and Lebanon.

Following this additional donation, Sansaar Care now sponsors 40 orphaned children through Human Appeal and is approaching 60 sponsored orphans across all of its delivery partners.

The programme provides clear public benefit by helping vulnerable children access:

  • Nutritious food and essential household support
  • Healthcare and necessary medicines
  • Education and school supplies
  • Safer shelter and living conditions
  • Greater financial and emotional stability

By helping guardians meet these essential needs, the programme reduces the effects of extreme poverty and improves the children’s safety, wellbeing and future prospects. It also helps children remain in education wherever possible and provides greater stability following the loss of parental care.

4.    Support Delivered

Sansaar Care donated £9,600 to Human Appeal to fund the sponsorship of 20 additional orphaned children. At £480 per child, the donation provides one year of sponsorship for each child.

Together with the 20 children already sponsored through Human Appeal, this brings Sansaar Care’s total sponsorship through this delivery partner to 40 children.

Human Appeal provides individual sponsorship records containing each child’s name, age, gender, country and unique orphan identification number. These records also include photographs and information about the support provided.

Sansaar Care retains the donation evidence and individual beneficiary records as part of its governance, monitoring and charitable impact documentation.

5.    Outcomes and Impact

The additional donation has doubled Sansaar Care’s sponsorship commitment through Human Appeal from 20 to 40 children.

The immediate and anticipated outcomes include:

•    Twenty additional orphaned children receiving sustained financial support
•    Improved access to nutritious food and essential household items
•    Better access to healthcare and medicines
•    Increased opportunity for children to attend or remain in school
•    Safer and more stable living conditions
•    Reduced financial pressure on guardians caring for orphaned children
•    Improved protection, dignity and emotional security for vulnerable children

The sponsorship provides practical assistance to children who have experienced parental loss, poverty, conflict or displacement. While sponsorship cannot remove the trauma they have experienced, it can provide greater security and help ensure that their essential needs continue to be met.

The wider impact is also significant. Sansaar Care now sponsors 40 children through Human Appeal and 62 orphans sponsored across all delivery partners. This reflects the development of a substantial and continuing programme of support for children without parental care.

6.    Risk, Safeguarding and Governance Considerations

The programme is delivered through Human Appeal, an established international humanitarian charity with experience in delivering orphan sponsorship and child-focused assistance in complex and high-risk environments.

Human Appeal is responsible for the direct delivery of support and maintains safeguarding and monitoring arrangements that include:

  • Child-protection policies and procedures
  • Vetting and background checks for relevant staff
  • Dedicated child-protection and safeguarding personnel
  • Assessment and verification of each child’s eligibility
  • Ongoing monitoring of the child’s welfare and circumstances
  • Monitoring of school attendance where education is available
  • Periodic updates and reports for sponsors

Sansaar Care’s governance responsibilities include:

  • Completing proportionate due diligence on Human Appeal
  • Retaining evidence of the £9,600 donation
  • Maintaining the individual records for all 20 additional children
  • Confirming that the funding is used for its intended charitable purpose
  • Monitoring information and updates provided by Human Appeal
  • Escalating any safeguarding, financial or delivery concerns where necessary

Individual beneficiary information and photographs must be handled securely and sensitively. Access should be restricted to appropriate trustees, staff and advisers, and identifying information should not be published unnecessarily.

Working through an experienced humanitarian partner enables Sansaar Care to support children in countries where direct delivery would be difficult and could create greater operational and safeguarding risks.

7.    Learning and Future Application

This activity demonstrates the importance of remaining responsive to urgent humanitarian needs. Sansaar Care’s attendance at Human Appeal’s fundraising event provided a clearer understanding of the extraordinary scale of the orphan crisis in Gaza, where nearly 55,000 children are reported to have lost parental care because of the ongoing genocide.

The decision to sponsor a further 20 children shows how awareness raised through charitable events can lead directly to practical and sustained support for vulnerable children.

The programme has also reinforced the value of:

  • Working with established and appropriately governed delivery partners
  • Providing sustained support rather than one-off assistance alone
  • Maintaining individual beneficiary records and evidence of impact
  • Diversifying support across countries affected by conflict, poverty and displacement
  • Monitoring the cumulative reach of Sansaar Care’s orphan sponsorship activities

Sansaar Care intends to continue supporting orphaned and parentless children as part of its wider charitable mission. Future sponsorship decisions will consider humanitarian need, delivery-partner capability, safeguarding arrangements, available funding and the quality of monitoring information provided.

The longer-term objective is to build a responsible and sustainable orphan sponsorship programme that provides continuing protection, stability and opportunity to children facing the greatest hardship.
